Home > Business Strategies > Landlord & Tenant > Increase in Rent
The RTA provides that the minimum notice period prior to increasing the rent is: 12 tenancy weeks for weekly tenancies; 3 tenancy months for monthly tenancies and 90 days for any other type of periodic tenancies. If the tenancy agreement provides for a longer period of notice, the provision set out in the agreement will prevail. The rent cannot be again increased until the first increase has become effective. If the tenant does not give notice of termination to be effective on or before the date the increase is to be effective, the tenant is deemed to have agreed to the rental increase.
